For years, Blue Ridge Rock Festival stood as one of Virginia’s most ambitious events for rock and metal fans. After hosting major acts like Slipknot, Pantera, and Five Finger Death Punch in previous editions, it promised to become a permanent fixture in the U.S. festival calendar.

But after the chaos of 2023, the cracks were no longer possible to ignore. And now, with the 2024 edition officially canceled and no clear path for 2025, many fans are left demanding answers—and refunds.

A Promising Festival That Fell Apart

Blue Ridge Rock Festival 2023 started with high hopes. The lineup boasted dozens of heavy hitters across metal, rock, and hardcore, and fans traveled from across the country to attend the four-day event at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton. But things quickly unraveled. Severe storms hit the area, causing the last two days of the event to be canceled. That alone might have been forgivable—weather is unpredictable, after all. What followed wasn’t.

Many attendees reported poor communication, a lack of basic infrastructure, and even unsafe conditions throughout the festival grounds. A video shared by a tour manager went viral at the time, pointing to widespread mismanagement and fan concerns.

2024 Canceled – And Refunds Still Missing

Despite a difficult 2023, there were early signs that the organizers intended to move forward with a 2024 edition. Tickets were briefly made available during the 2023 festival—but were later pulled, causing confusion. On May 10, 2024, the organizers issued a joint statement with Virginia International Raceway officially canceling the 2024 event:

Our number one focus and priority has been, and remains, settling the insurance claim and ensuring resolution for everyone affected by 2023’s weather cancellation… Blue Ridge Rock Festival and Virginia International Raceway are saddened to announce that the 2024 Festival will not take place as originally planned.

They added that refunds for any purchases made toward 2024 would be processed, and that updates would follow.

The full statement is available on their website and Instagram.

But fans remain frustrated—and vocal—on social media. In the comments of the festival’s official Instagram post, users repeatedly call out the organization for failing to refund tickets from 2023 and question whether they’ll ever see that money again.

Still no refund from 2023. It’s been over 9 months.
Y’all said last year it would be resolved by the end of the year. Now it’s almost July.
Never again. I lost over $600.

Is There Going to Be a Blue Ridge Rock Festival in 2025?

Technically, a return in 2025 hasn’t been ruled out. The statement included a vague suggestion that the event could resume next year. But given the financial, logistical, and reputational damage from the last two years, a comeback would require more than just a new poster—it would need transparency, proper planning, and regained trust.

Until then, it’s safer to say that Blue Ridge Rock Festival is on indefinite pause. No 2025 dates have been announced, no venue has been secured, and fans are still waiting for resolutions from 2023 and 2024.

While the music world watches to see if Blue Ridge can recover, those attending other events in Virginia can explore a newer trend growing across the state: sports betting Virginia. Since legalization, mobile betting platforms have become more popular—allowing fans to enjoy their favorite games while keeping up with festival season. If you’re heading to any Virginia events this year, this could add an extra layer of fun to your weekend plans.
