Sleep Token is a British metal band formed in 2016. Orchestrated by a mysterious mask-wearing vocalist named Vessel, their music combines alternative metal, post-rock/metal, progressive metal, and indie rock/pop with love, loss, and religion themes. Identical, the troupe members perform in masks and cloaks.
They released their first single, “Thread the Needle,” in September 2016, and their One EP followed in December 2016. They have three albums to their name: Sundowning (2019), This Place Will Become Your Tomb (2021), and Take Me Back to Eden (2023).

Vessel’s mask, for instance, represents his affinity with the primordial God Sleep, with whom the band works collectively.
The band is a concept group creating albums based on fictional lore. The story follows Vessel, the lead singer, who dreams of an ancient deity named Sleep. Sleep promises glory if Vessel spreads the “Gospel of Sleep.”
Their music explores Vessel’s relationship with Sleep, symbolizing unbalanced love—much like the bond between a deity and followers. This lore keeps the band anonymous and connects fans through a shared narrative. While Sleep isn’t real, the mythology adds depth, immersing fans in the music and its story.
