Another treat for Jimi Hendrix fans was released on Hendrix’s official YouTube channel. At the same time as the Hendrix estate released the 2024 album Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, they shared a 9-minute short film conducted by E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, interviews Colette Harron and Eddie Kramer about Jimi Hendrix’s life in New York City. The film is a companion to the recently released box set.

The film “Jimi Hendrix’s New York” features Colette Harron and Eddie Kramer’s stories about Hendrix’s time in New York, alongside archival photos and videos from that era.

Colette Harron was a friend of Jimi Hendrix during his New York days, playing a pivotal role in his life as part of his close circle. She was there during his early rise and contributed to his personal and professional journey, mainly when he made a name for himself in the music scene. Notably, she owned a clothing store and sold him the jacket he wore at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.

Kramer, Hendrix’s famous studio partner for several years, shares stories about working with Jimi in the studio, including some funny moments, like the adventure with Jimi Hendrix’s infamous Corvette. Kramer has collaborated extensively with Hendrix throughout his career. Their partnership produced several iconic albums during Hendrix’s lifetime and posthumously.

Eddie Kramer worked with Jimi as both a producer and engineer on key projects such as ‘Are You Experienced’ (1967), ‘Axis: Bold as Love’ (1967), ‘Electric Ladyland’ (1968), and ‘Band of Gypsys’ (1970). He also contributed to posthumous releases like ‘The Cry of Love’ (1971). Since Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s stepsister, took control of the estate, Kramer has played an essential role in managing and producing many posthumous releases of Hendrix’s work. His deep knowledge of Jimi’s recordings has made him instrumental in preserving the quality and authenticity of these releases, helping to keep Jimi’s legacy alive for future generations.
