This Thursday, Linkin Park has officially announced a new vocalist! From an early age, Emily Armstrong was drawn to music. In 2002, she founded the band Epiphany, now known as Dead Sara, releasing four albums and three EPs. Emily, who is now 38, will follow the band’s previous vocalist, Chester Bennington, who tragically took his own life in 2017.
The singer will join existing members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix, and Joe Hahn for the band’s upcoming projects. Colin Brittain will also join them, replacing Rob Bourdon on drums, as Bourdon chose not to participate in this new phase of the band.
In an interview with Billboard, the singer discussed the significant impact Linkin Park’s album “Hybrid Theory” had on her life and musical discovery: “I was in a band when [Hybrid Theory] came out. ‘One Step Closer’ was the song for me, and I was just like, ‘Holy shit, that’s what I want to do. As a singer, I want to be able to scream.’ That album was everything — I’ve listened to it a trillion times. I would skate to it. I would mosh to it.“
Emily Armstrong: From Dead Sara to Linkin Park
Emily Armstrong grew up in Los Angeles, USA, and began showing interest in music from a young age. She already divided her time between composing, singing, and playing. Later, she left school to focus exclusively on her music career. Among their most famous songs are “Weatherman,” “Mona Lisa,” “Heroes,” and even a cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box,” which led to an invitation to collaborate with Courtney Love, widow of Kurt Cobain.
Throughout her professional career, Emily Armstrong has shared the stage with successful artists such as Beck, Demi Lovato, and The Offspring. Now, she is also joining Linkin Park and will take the stage next week on September 11 in Los Angeles.
