After its initial announcement in 2020, producing A Complete Unknown faced numerous delays due to the pandemic and the Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strike. Despite these setbacks, the film garnered significant support from Bob Dylan, who provided detailed script notes to the director, James Mangold.

The first images from “A Complete Unknown,” a biopic about Bob Dylan’s life, have been released. They featured actor Timothée Chalamet performing “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” On Wednesday, the film’s first trailer was unveiled, giving audiences a glimpse into the movie’s portrayal of Dylan’s early years.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of New York City in the early 1960s, the movie follows the rise to fame of the 19-year-old Bob Dylan. The film is slated for release in U.S. theaters in December 2024.

In the newly released teaser, Timothée Chalamet—known for his roles in DuneWonka, and Call Me by Your Name—brings the legendary American singer-songwriter to life. According to IndieWire, Chalamet also took guitar lessons to prepare for the role.

“A Complete Unknown” is directed by James Mangold, who is renowned for his work on Girl, Interrupted, Logan, and Ford v Ferrari. Mangold also directed Walk the Line, a 2005 film about another folk legend, Johnny Cash, played by Joaquin Phoenix.

Chalamet will be joined by Elle Fanning, who plays Sylvie Russo (a stand-in for Suze Rotolo, Bob Dylan’s former girlfriend), Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger.
