2024 marks a special year for Neil Young. The Canadian-American singer-songwriter has seen a resurgence in his music’s popularity with its return to the streaming platform Spotify after a controversial departure in 2022. He’s also released a new live album titled “F*ckin’ Up,” recorded with his legendary backing band Crazy Horse under the name Neil & the Horse, on April 26, 2024. To top it all off, Neil Young and Crazy Horse are embarking on a highly anticipated 2024 tour supporting their latest release.
This tour lets fans hear new material from “F*ckin’ Up” and journey through Neil Young’s extensive and influential catalog. Throughout his career, Neil Young has consistently pushed boundaries and challenged expectations, making him one of rock and roll’s most respected and enduring figures. With Crazy Horse by his side, known for their electrifying live performances and powerful sound, this tour will surely be a highlight of the 2024 concert season.
Neil Young and Crazy Horse 2024 “Love Earth Tour”: The Kick-Off
Almost nothing was revealed about Neil Young’s 2024 U.S. tour before it kicked off in April at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre in San Diego. The only known details were that Crazy Horse would be backing Neil Young and Micah Nelson would be taking over guitar duties from Nils Lofgren (as he is currently on tour with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band).
Neil Young walked onto the stage alongside Nelson, drummer Ralph Molina, and bassist Billy Talbot and launched into an incredible version of “Cortez, the Killer.” This performance was historic because, after 49 years and over 540 live performances, the world finally heard the song as Young originally intended it to be played:
“I floated on the water,” Young sang. “I ate that ocean wave/Two weeks after the slaughter/I was living in a cave/They came too late to get me/But there’s no one here to set me free/From this rocky grave/To that snowed-out ocean wave.”
