What happened to Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighter’s Ex-Drummer?
In March 2022, the music world was rocked by the sudden and tragic death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins, known for his electrifying energy and undeniable talent, had been with the band since 1997, forming a powerful rhythm section alongside frontman Dave Grohl.
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died unexpectedly at the age of 50 on March 25th, 2022. He was found unresponsive in his hotel room at the Four Seasons Casa Medina in Bogotá, Colombia after complaining of chest pains. Medical personnel attempted CPR but were unable to revive him. His death came just hours before the band was scheduled to perform at a festival in the city.
An initial toxicology test revealed the presence of ten substances in his system, including opioids, marijuana and antidepressants. Some reports suggested Hawkins may have had an underlying heart condition, raising the possibility that “it could have collapsed” apart from any contribution of drugs in his system.” However, the official cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
Who Is Foo Fighter’s New Drummer?
Josh Freese is a true chameleon of the music industry. Beyond his current stint with Foo Fighters (since 2023), he’s a founding member of punk rockers The Vandals and a longtime member of new wave band Devo. Freese’s insane work ethic has seen him contribute to over 400 albums and tours with a mind-blowing list of artists, from Nine Inch Nails to Sting. He even filled in for Guns N’ Roses and A Perfect Circle.
After drumming for Foo Fighters at Taylor Hawkins’ tribute concerts in 2022, they officially made Josh Freese their full-time drummer in May 2023.
