The night at O2 Arena have a competition between Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran over who can win the most important awards.
Ed Sheeran eventually picked up the two biggest awards of the night. With his second album, ‘X’, Sheeran beat competition from George Ezra and Sam Smith to claim the best album gong. The singer-songwriter, who failed to take home a Grammy at this year’s ceremony – despite ‘X’ was a success on both sides of the Atlantic following its release in June – saw other winners collected other awards which included Swift, Pharrell Williams, Foo Fighters, One Direction, and Mark Ronson.
Last year, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner banged on, at some length, about bringing rock & roll back to the BRITs. This year, Royal Blood actually did it, receiving the British Group award from Led Zeppelin’s guitarist Jimmy Page.
For other reasons Madonna ended up grabbing the headlines. Madonna’s first performance at the show in 20 years was marred by a nasty fall, as the singer was accidently pulled off the stage by a back-up dancer. She later posted on Instagram: ‘Armani hooked me up! My beautiful cape was tied too tight! But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up! Thanks for your good wishes! I’m fine! #livingforlove.’
