Joe Cocker dead at 70 after cancer battle

After a long battle with lung cancer, the legendary British rocker died today at age 70, at his home in Colorado.

He rose to fame in the mid 60’s and since then he recorded 40 albums, won a Grammy in 1983 for his track ‘Up Where We Belong’, a duet with Jennifer Warnes. In 2007 he received an OBE for his contribution to music.

Some of the first celebrity reactions comes from Sir Paul McCartney who said:

“Joe brought so much to the world”, and added “I knew him through the years as a good mate and I was so sad to hear that he had been ill and really sad to hear today that he had passed away. He was a great guy, a lovely guy who brought so much to the world and we’ll all miss him.”

Below, we recall some of Joe Cocker best work to honor one of the best voices from the past century.

R.I.P. Joe Cocker!
